She was born and grew up in the midst of the landscape and popular culture, in Asturias, Spain(1982), surrounded by boats of paint and smell of turpentine. Her father was a landscape painter, and she spent hours painting in his studio since a very young age. He framed all her scribbles as if they were real artworks.
Popular culture with all its syncretism, as well as the unconditional love of her father for her first children's works, will mark her career forever. She began her artistic studies at the School of Arts of Oviedo in the year 2000 where she specialized in Illustration, then she went to Barcelona to study Fine Arts. After that, in 2010, she began her studies in art therapy and psychosocial training at the Pompeu Fabra University.
It is in Barcelona where she develops a large part of her work, with individual exhibitions in galleries such as Miscelánea, and collaborations with media such as Metal Magazine, VEin Magazine or Underbrain.
The work of Mai Blanco reflects with freshness and irony the bittersweet nature of existence, and the vibrant colors she uses contrast with the melancholy looks and disheveled faces of her characters.
